Living in the Past - Cream (44)

Hi there..
Today's song is Cream by Prince.
I really like this song. This one and "Purple Rain" are undoubtingly my favourite Prince songs! But this one has a sexy feel in it - the tune, the beat, the laid back way he sings the words, delightful.. Just makes you wanna move your hips and shake your ass! LOL
Btw, I would like to state - for all the people who's like "he's gay", "gay fag is gay", "faggiest fag I've ever seen" bla bla bla - that Prince has an androgynous quality to him and I don't think he's gay, he's all about the ladies! But then again, who cares?! I don't give a crap if he likes cupcakes. I like he's music.
Well, now, back onto topic, as for the lyrics.. Prince stated at a concert that he wrote this song looking into the mirror, so he is the "Cream". A little egomaniac don't you think? Well, I guess that when your a great entertainer and composer your intitled to some excentricities.

Lyrics:
This is it
It's time for you to go to the wire
You will hit
'Cause you got the burnin' desire
It's your time (Time)
You got the horn so why don't you blow it
U are fine (Fine)
You're filthy cute and, baby, you know it

Cream - Get on top
Cream - You will cop
Cream - Don't you stop
Cream - Sh-boogie bop

You're so good
Baby, there ain't nobody better (Ain't nobody better)
So you should
Never ever go by the letter (Never ever)
You're so cool (Cool)
Everything you do is success (Ooh)
Make the rules (Rules)
Then break 'em all 'cause you are the best
Yes you are

Cream - Get on top

Cream - You will cop
Cream - Don't you stop
Cream - Sh-boogie bop

Look up in the air, it's your guitar

Do your dance
Why should you wait any longer?
Take your chance
It could only make you stronger
It's your time (It's your time)
you got the horn so why don't you blow it (Go on and blow it)
You're so fine (you're so fine)
You're filthy cute and, baby, you know it (You know it)
Come on

Cream - Get on top

Cream - You will cop
Cream - Don't you stop
Cream - Sh-boogie bop

Cream {x2}
Cream - Sh-boogie bop

Cream {x2}
Right there
Cream - Don't you stop
Cream - Sh-boogie bop
Boogie

Cream - Sh-boogie bop fade out
Cream, baby

Living in the Past - Killing In The Name (43)

Hey buddies..
Today's song is Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine.
I love the angriness of this song. It is probably my favourite RATM song. It has such a power conveyed in it. And, unlike most songs this one has a real meaning in it and that's why I like it. And whether you like it or not, you ow it some respect, don't you think? Otherwise, have a nice glass of shut the hell up.
As for the lyrics meaning, I think it is pretty clear that it is about people's prejudices. I don't know what they're talking about specifically, but I have a few theories. It could be reffering to:
1 - The WWII. With "the chosen whites" being the jews, who were forced to "wear badges" just before the Holocaust.
2 - How Governments and The Police Force are filled with racists and White Supremists, etc. With the "badges" symbolizing the cops (who have a long history of discrimination and violence). The "burn crosses" reffering to a ritual performed by the anti-colour radical group, Ku-Klux-Klan (some of which are within the police corp) - this also explains the "chosen whites" part. And, to conclude the "and now you do what they told ya"/"fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" lines are obviously about how people obey the government and the police force cause they are in positions of power.
3 - Or, last but not least. The Crusades. I think the religious persecution fits as well. (oh, and btw, let me just say... what the fuck happened to "thou shall not kill"? was there a part after I missed? Like "unless they're brown, fags or have another religions, then what the hell, whack them." I don't think so.)
The most likely is the second one. But anyway, agree with me, disagree with me... whatever. These are the more logical hypothesis.
Lyrics:
Killing in the name of!
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Huh!

Killing in the name of!
Killing in the name of

And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
But now you do what they told ya
Well now you do what they told ya

Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites

Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Uggh!

Killing in the name of!
Killing in the name of

And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you're under control
And now you do what they told ya!

Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites
Come on!

Yeah! Come on!

Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Motherfucker!
Uggh!

P.S: I know I shouldn't, but.. what the heck, this song reminds me of you. Was it the first you ever played in your bass? I think it was. Well, this one's for you. I love you.

Living in the Past - No One Knows (42)

Hey buddies..
Today's song is No One Knows by Queens Of The Stone Age.
This song has an almost hypnotic feel... God, I love this band. They kick major ass! The whole album is pretty awsome, but this song stands out, I think.

Theres a part of the song that really reminds me of The Beatles "A Day In The Life" just before the bass solo, the way the music seems to crash in an explosion of different sounds very similar. Know what I'm saying?
What about Josh's voice? Makes me meeeeeelt. And Dave's drumming? Absolutely wicked, he just goes mental on the drums.
Anyway, I also like the music video. Though I'm kinda dissapointed how Dave didn't play a bigger part in the video. How come you don't get to see Dave get whacked by the psyco deer or get his head hung on the deer's wall? Baaah. Plus, you get to see a mental deer sleeping with a plastic model and yard gnomes, everything you could want from a video!
As for the lyrics meaning, I admite I had to do some research, 'cause I had no fucking clue what this lyrics were about. And after reading some opinions, I got to know that Josh Homme said in a live performance the following: "This is a song about Devil worship". I guess that after knowing this it acctually makes sense.. E.g. the first verse could be reffering to how stupid he thinks organised religion is.
To conclude... Dave and Josh are mmmmmmm, so hot *faint*. Don't you think Josh looks like Elvis Presley? (but slightly better) LOL

Lyrics:
We get some rules to follow
That and this, these and those
No one knows

We get these pills to swallow
How they stick in your throat
Tastes like gold

Oh, what you do to me
No one knows

And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool of mine

I journey through the desert
Of the mind with no hope
I found low

I drift along the ocean
Dead lifeboats in the sun
Come undone

Pleasantly caving in
I come undone

And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I

Heaven smiles above me
What a gift can be love
But no one knows

A gift that you give to me
No one knows

P.S: Josh and Nick are the only permanent members of Qeens Of The Stone Age, everyone else plays as guests, usually for an album or tour. The band has very much a revolving door policy.

Living in the Past - Bohemian Rhapsody (41)

Hello..
Today's song is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
An epic, from beginning to the end, among the best, alongside Led Zeppelin's immortal "Stairway to Heaven".
Bohemian Rapsody is like four or five songs in one, truely brilliant. And Freddies singing skills?! Man, I think I speak for everyone when I say that he's *one of* the greatest singer ever lived!
As for the lyrics. When asked in an interview, Freddie Mercury said that he didn't like people asking him all the time what tis song meant and that people should just enjoy it.
C'mon, after all, all you have to say is that "the song is great". You don't have to make such a big of a deal as to what the song is about. Free will says that you can have your own opinion. So, what does this song mean to you? To me this song is about rainbows and sunshine.
Btw, listen to Weird Al Yankovick's satire to this song: Bohemian Rap City. It's very cool.

Lyrics:
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see

I'm just a poor boy
I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows
Doesn't really matter to me
To me

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away

Mama
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody
I've got to go
Got to leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouche, Scaramouche*1
Will you do the Fandango*2?
Thunderbolt and lightning
Very, very frightening me
(Galileo) Galileo
(Galileo) Galileo
Galileo, figaro
Magnifico
I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
(He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity)
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Bismillah!*3
No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!)
Bismillah!
We will not let you go
(Let hime go!)
Bismillah!
We will not let you go
(Let me go!)
Will not let you go
(Let me go!)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh, mama mia, mama mia
Mama mia, let me go
Beelzebub*4 has a devil put aside for me
For me
For me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?
Oh, baby
Can't do this to me, baby
Just got to get out
Just got to get right out of here

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows

*1 According to the dictionary means "a stock character who appears as a boastful coward"
*2 Is a Spanish dance
*3 Is the opening word in the Qu'ran (Koran) and literally means "In the name of Allah"
*4 Is one of the many names given to the Devil

Living in the Past - Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon (40)

Good Morning People!
Today's song is Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon by Jefferson Airplane.
"Alright people! You have seen the heavy groups now you will see morning maniac music!" (- damn right you've seen the "heavy groups", fuckin' Whoooo, that's what you've seen! ahah) Don't get me wrong, The Plane are just as great, but in a completely different league -their the most intense Psychedelic Rock band I've ever seen! Slick's vocal intensity is beyond real! When she hits that note, which she holds for like 15 seconds: "Sat-ur-daaay Afternooooon", it's just hypnotic, there's nothing like it, you are automatically transported back in time. I also love the vocal fills through the whole song, even though they had very different voice types. I think it gave Jefferson Airplane diversity and first-rate harmonies.
As for the name of the song played at the beggining of the video.. "The Other Side Of This Life", there's no full recording from Woodstock, it got cut up when they were making the documentary. What an abomination! It was going so good, God damn!
Finally, I would like to highlight the following.. Jack Casady is one of the most underrated bass players of all time, c'mon the opening bass-riff is pure gold!

Lyrics:
Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try

Find a way to need someone
Find a way to see
Find a way to need someone
and the sunshine will set you free

Won't you try
With love before we're gone

Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try

Saturday afternoon
Saturday afternoon
When your head is feeling fine
You can ride inside our car
I will give you caps of blue and silver sunlight for your hair
All that soon will be is what you need to see, my love

Won't you try
Won't you try

I do care that you do see

Is it time to leave, my lady
Yes it is, I know
Round about and everywhere; sunshine instead of snow
Times can't change that what I say is true

All is real
I'll come through for you
and I'll come through for you, my love

Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try

Saturday afternoon
Yellow clouds rising in the noon
Acid incense and balloons
Saturday afternoon
People dancing everywhere
Loudly shouting, I dont care
It's a time for growing and a time for knowing

Saturday afternoon
Saturday afternoon (Won't you try)
Saturday afternoon (Won't you try)
Saturday afternoon (Won't you try)
Won't you try (Saturday afternoon)
Won't you try (Saturday afternoon)
Won't you try
Won't you try

P.S: If you check comments from the youtube videos from Woodstock you'll see that people say "Why wasn't I alive during those day's?"/"I would sell my soul to have been there"/"I was born in a wrong generation" *bla bla bla* a lot.. And I feel the need to try to enlight those people, 'cause, you're just ignoring the whole idea behind it! There was a war going on, just like today, and these people were into peaceful protest. What have you done lately to make a change in the world, to make it a better place to live in? To fill it with a little bit of love? It wasn't all about the long hair, the guitars, the drugs, the music, that was only a part of it. It was mainly about peace and love. Think about that.

Living in the Past - Even Flow (39)

What's uuuup?
Today's song is Even Flow by Pearl Jam.
I love this video, makes me wanna crowd surf at concerts! And his hair, c'mon what a gorgeous hair Eddie had, I'm so jealous LOL
As for the song, it kicks rear! It's innovative tune, Vedder's awesome rough voice backed by that wicked guitar, God damn!
Concerning the lyrics meaning, "This song's about a guy, his name was Ben actually, in Seatlle. We used to see him when we'd go down and practice. He didn't have a home. We'd give him money and he'd smile a toothless smile in appreciation and I still think of him every time we play this." - Ed Vedder, Sydney 11-18-2006. Sooo, this song is about homelessness, 'kaaay. I wonder.. Was Eddie partially inspired by Jethro Tull's song Aqualung? Their approach is pretty similar, they both talk about the homeless and neither of them paints a good picture of the protagonist. Maybe I'm completely wrong. Anyway, who cares? I love this song for musical reasons!
See you next time, folks.

Lyrics:
Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete, again
Oh, feelin' maybe he'll see a little better, set a days, ooh yeah
Oh, hand out, faces that he sees time again ain't that familiar, oh yeah
Oh, dark grin, he can't help, when he's happy looks insane, oh yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again
Life again, life again...

Kneelin', looking through the paper though he doesn't know to read,
Ooh yeah
Oh, prayin', now to something that has never showed him anything
Oh, feelin', understands the weather of the winters on its way
Oh, ceilings, few and far between all the legal halls of shame, yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again
Whispering hands, gently lead him away

Him away, him away...
Yeah!
Woo...ah yeah...fuck it up...

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again, yeah
Oh, whispering hands, gently lead him away
Him away, him away...
Yeah!
Woo...uh huh...yeah, yeah, mommy, mommy...

Living in the Past - Iron Man (38)

Hey guys, and gals..
Today's song is Iron Man by Black Sabbath.
The opening riff, after Ozzy says "I am Iron Man" is the shit! Dum dum dum-dum-dum dadadadadadada dum-dum-dum! An absolute classic and my favourite in the Sabbath's awesome catalogue!
Oh, btw, love the sound balance, the intro makes it seem like "Iron Man" himself is walking through your head.. Know what I mean? Listen to it on headphones! Well, I could be just a total idiot and it could be just my imagination, but either way, this song rules!
Concerning the lyrics meaning: this song isn't about the Marvel Iron Man, as you may think, but a completely different Iron Man that Black Sabbath created for this song. The song is about a man who travels into the future and sees the end of the world, the apocalypse. When he returns, he goes through the great magnetic storm mentioned in the song, turning him into Iron Man. When he tries to warn the world about what will happen, nobody cares. Being so enraged by this, he goes on a killing spree, creating the end of the world that he foresaw..
I also like another explanation, by Henry Rollins. He thinks that a big part of the song is about what rejection can do to a person. Looking at the lyrics, that makes sense.
But what ever the hell you think it means, it still kicks ass, with out a doubt. K, I'm done now LOL

Lyrics:
{I am Iron Man}

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?

Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold

Now the time is here
For Iron Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again!

Living in the Past - Say Say Say (37)

Hello guys..
Today's song is Say Say Say by  Sir Paul McCartney featuring Michael Jackson.
love this song, it's soo catchy. "Say say say, what you want, but don't play games with my affection" c'mon, it gets stuck in my head like forever! And the video, holy crap, it makes me laugh all the time, it's too awsome for words, my head is explodig from the awsome! *faint* (LMAO)
"Mac and Jack" gotta love the chemistry between them in this video! Well, I know most Beatles fans always trash Michael and never give him credit, 'cause of the whole Beatles song catalog thing. But I think he did impact music in a way no one ever has. He was in a class of his own. I'm not trying to imply that he is more talented than any member of the Beatles (of course not! They were the most influentional and important icons for their country's heritage!) but each artist has his strengths and weaknesses. Fact is: They both (- The Beatles and Michael Jackson) have their place in history and have impacted music. Period.
As for the lyrics: I don't really care what the meaning is. Everyone has their own opinion. I just love this damn song!

See you later, either way, I'll leave the lyrics here:

(Paul)
Say Say Say
What you want
But don't play games
With my affection
Take take take
What you need
But don't leave me
With no direction

(Michael)
All alone
I sit home by the phone
Waiting for you, baby
Through the years
How can you stand to hear
My pleading for you
You know I'm cryin
Oo oo oo oo oo

(Paul)
(Now) Go go go
Where you want
But don't leave me
Here forever
You you you stay away
So long girl, I see you never

(Michael)
What can I do, girl
To get through to you
Cause I love you baby
Standing here
Baptized in all my tears
Baby through the years
You know I'm cryin
Oo oo oo oo oo

You never ever worry
And you never shed a tear
You're sayin that my love ain't real
Just look at my face these tears aint dryin'

You you you
Can never say
That Im not the one
Who really loves you
I pray pray pray, everyday
That you'll see things
Girl like I do

What can I do, girl
To get through to you
Cause I love you baby
Standing here
Baptized in all my tears
Baby through the years
You know Im crying
Oo oo oo oo oo

Say say say...

(Repeat and fade out)

P.S: (2:57 - 3:00) It looks like Michael was about to laugh after Mcca puts the shaving cream on his face, so dear :)

Living in the Past - With Or Without You (36)

Hi, fellas..
Today's song is With Or Without You by U2.
Though I don't really apreciate U2's kind of music (I guess it is too commercial to me) I think this particular song ought to be seen as a "classic"/"remarkable" (for lack of a better term).
The message is fairly simple - a pure love song. But the way that he expresses himself throughout the song is very honest, full of emotion. You can't help but being drawn into the song. Maybe my opinion is bias, 'cause I can relate to the situation myself and empathise with the lyrics, but the hopelessness of his situation is very moving.
"You give it all, but i want more. Nothing to win, nothing left to lose".. the basic problem is that being with her is too hard to bear because he wants her so much, and being away from her is unbearable for the same reason.
He shows his mixed feelings - he is angry that she is letting him stay in this situation, yet he knows that she is doing all she can - oh my god, this is probably the gayest shit I've ever written.
Oh well, I've gone on for a bit haven't I? It's just that this song is kinda personal to me, so I could talk about it for a while, but I guess i'll just leave it here.

Here you have the lyrics:

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you

Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you

With or without you
With or without you

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

My hands are tied
My body bruised, she's got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
With or without you

Living in the Past - Construção (35)

Hi, my friends..
Today's song is Construção by Chico Buarque.
Far from being "only" an acclaimed and world famous singer and musician, Chico Buarque is also an extraordinary poet, I must say.

The structure is just perfect. A true masterpiece. I love the disturbing traffic noise in the middle, that intentional uneasy feeling is awesome.
My own little interpretation of it's lyrics is as follows: I always pictured three young men, three workers. One of them died in an accident - at his work - after an exausting day. Another fell and consequently died, cause he was drunk. And the last one killed himself. The common factor in these three stories is the cricticism to the capitalism, politics and society. It didn't matter if he was an alcoholic, if he cheated on his wife, 'cause in every story the guy ends up dead and unsettling someone.
One of my favourite lines is the following: "morreu na contra mão atrapalhando o tráfego" which translates to something like "died on the wrong way of the road disturbing the traffic". Thus the man take an important place at the song's story, to the society, he's just some guy who's keeping them to get home, to get to work or whatever. They don't really care.

Well, smell you later.

Here you have the lyrics:
Amou daquela vez
Como se fosse a última
Beijou sua mulher
Como se fosse a última
E cada filho seu
Como se fosse o único
E atravessou a rua
Com seu passo tímido
Subiu a construção
Como se fosse máquina
Ergueu no patamar
Quatro paredes sólidas
Tijolo com tijolo
Num desenho mágico
Seus olhos embotados
De cimento e lágrima
Sentou prá descansar
Como se fosse sábado
Comeu feijão com arroz
Como se fosse um príncipe
Bebeu e soluçou
Como se fosse um náufrago
Dançou e gargalhou
Como se ouvisse música
E tropeçou no céu
Como se fosse um bêbado
E flutuou no ar
Como se fosse um pássaro
E se acabou no chão
Feito um pacote flácido
Agonizou no meio
Do passeio público
Morreu na contramão
Atrapalhando o tráfego...

Amou daquela vez
Como se fosse o último
Beijou sua mulher
Como se fosse a única
E cada filho seu
Como se fosse o pródigo
E atravessou a rua
Com seu passo bêbado
Subiu a construção
Como se fosse sólido
Ergueu no patamar
Quatro paredes mágicas
Tijolo com tijolo
Num desenho lógico
Seus olhos embotados
De cimento e tráfego
Sentou prá descansar
Como se fosse um príncipe
Comeu feijão com arroz
Como se fosse o máximo
Bebeu e soluçou
Como se fosse máquina
Dançou e gargalhou
Como se fosse o próximo
E tropeçou no céu
Como se ouvisse música
E flutuou no ar
Como se fosse sábado
E se acabou no chão
Feito um pacote tímido
Agonizou no meio
Do passeio náufrago
Morreu na contramão
Atrapalhando o público...

Amou daquela vez
Como se fosse máquina
Beijou sua mulher
Como se fosse lógico
Ergueu no patamar
Quatro paredes flácidas
Sentou prá descansar
Como se fosse um pássaro
E flutuou no ar
Como se fosse um príncipe
E se acabou no chão
Feito um pacote bêbado
Morreu na contra-mão
Atrapalhando o sábado...

Por esse pão prá comer
Por esse chão prá dormir
A certidão prá nascer
E a concessão prá sorrir
Por me deixar respirar
Por me deixar existir
Deus lhe pague...

Pela cachaça de graça
Que a gente tem que engolir
Pela fumaça desgraça
Que a gente tem que tossir
Pelo andaimes pingentes
Que a gente tem que cair
Deus lhe pague...

Pela mulher carpideira
Prá nos louvar e cuspir
E pelas moscas bixeiras
A nos beijar e cobrir
E pela paz derradeira
Que enfim vai nos redimir
Deus lhe pague...

Living in the Past - Seven Nation Army (34)

Hey, what's up?
Today's song is Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes.
Seven Nation Army is a very seductive-sounding song. Just the ongoing awkward riff and the simple beat, kind of shows what a true hook is. And don't you love Jack's smokey/paranoid voice in somewhat vynil mic? Brilliant.
Oh, and as for the video.. it's optical illusion, c'mon, so incredibly trippy too :D
Also, I read in Rolling Stone - or what-so-ever - that Jack used a guitar to play the bass line, maybe using distortions/effect pedals or maybe just tuned down. Who knows, maybe I'm totally wrong. Nevertheless, it's amazing how two people can make such a great sound.
As for it's meaning, I didn't even think about it until now. I just always figured whatever it was, he delivered it well. And quoting Jack himself "It doesn't mean a damn thing, but it's enough".

Lyrics:
I'm gonna fight 'em all

A nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back

And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone

Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell

And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that aint what you want to hear
But thats what I'll do
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home

I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera for evermore
I'm gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding
Right before the lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will sing no more
And the stains coming from my blood
Tell me go back home

Living in the Past - Money For Nothing (33)

Hi there..
Today's song is Money For Nothing by Dire Straits.
First of all, I gotta say, the lyrics to this song.. have no depth. No true meaning, symbolic or direct. They simple put trough a typical standpoint of a hardworking, low-income worker.
Thus, the music is fantastic.
I think that the reason why I like this song so much is the same reason I like songs like Smoke On The Water, by Deep Purple.. The music, not the lyrics. Those songs are comparable in the sense that the music is great, really awesome, but the lyrics are pretty meaningless. Do you know what I mean? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to underrate generally the song, it's probably my favourite by Dire Straits. Cliché? Maybe, I don't really care.

(Thus meaningless) Here you have the lyrics to this song:

Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that's his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he's a millionaire

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin' in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And he's up there, what's that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's, Lord

Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and your chicks for free
Money for nothin' and chicks for free

Living in the Past - Old Man (32)

Hey, fellow bloggers...
Today's song is Old Man by Neil Young.
Just purchased the Harvest CD. Phenomenal.
Omg, what can I say this is so fucking good. Love that banjo. God, I adore this song. It makes me cry for some reason.

I always thought it was about a young man who is repeating his father's mistakes, and then is calling him a hypocrite when he gets pissed at it. That was my own little interpretation to the song. But then I realized I was wrong, as I read some word from the book "Neil and Me" by Scott Young (Neil's dad) "It isn't about you. I know a lot of people think it is. But it's about Louis, the man who lives on the ranch and looks after things for me, the cattle and the buffalos and the feed and all that. A wonderful guy."
To sum up, this is an awesome, awesome song, one of those that you never get tired of.

Here I leave you the lyrics:

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

P.S: "It doesn't mean hat much to me/to mean that much to you" I love how Neil just doesn't give a fuck and still rocks so hard!

Living in the Past - Shake The Disease (31)

Hello, buddies..
Today's song is Shake the Disease by Depeche Mode!
I love this song. Why is that? 'Cause it so blatently defys the whole macho-tough-guy immage that most bands out there in the 80's tried to put out, through it's lyrics - which clearly conveys thoughts about insecurity.
What can I say? The one by DM that stands as the most meaningful for me. It brought back many pics from the past. Today's stuff seems be far changed, unfourtunatly.
Anyways, Depeche Mode is... phenomenal. What a brilliant first 33 seconds. Gotta love it.

Lyrics:
I'm not going down on my knees
Begging You to adore me
Cant you see it's misery
and torture for me?
When I'm misunderstood
Try as hard as you can
I tried as hard I could
To make you see
How important it is for me
Here is a plea
From my heart to you
Nobody knows me
As well as you do
You know how hard it is for me
To shake the disease
That takes hold of my tongue in situations like these

Understand me (x4)

Some people have to be
permenantly together
Lovers devoted
to each other forever
Now I got things to do
and i said before
That I know you have too
When I'm not there
In spirit I'll be there
Here is a plea
From my heart to you
Nobody knows me
As well as you do
You know how hard it is for me
To shake the disease
That takes hold of my tongue in situations like these

Understand me (x4)

Here is a plea
From my heart to you
Nobody knows me
As well as you do
You know how hard it is for me.

P.S: This song reminds me so much of you. I love you, there's no doubt of that. But I'm certainly not 'going down on my knees/begging you to adore me' it's truely painful to me (being turned down by you, though I know you have every right to blew me off). But still hope you'll forgive me, 'cause I was 'misunderstood', please 'try as hard as you can/ I tried as hard as I could/To make you see' how important you are to me.
'Here is a plea/From my heart to you/Nobody knows me/As well as you do', I know I'll never love anyone like I love you, and I am really willing to make things up and to change my attitudes towards you and our eventual relationship. Please, 'understand me'.
I know you think that 'some people have to be/permenantly together/lovers devoted to each other forever' and in retrospective, I know that I wasn't fair to you. I neglected you and our relationship, I took you for granted. I'm truely sorry. I'm going nuts, M.

Living in the Past - Our House (30)

Hi, fellas..
Today's song is Our House by Madness!
I'm not particulary atracted to the 80's music era. But this song definitely represents the best of this decade!
Ahhh, I love Madness. Their song just has the wickedest beat, you can't forget. It's sooo catchy. Truely delightful. What a great ska band!
What else can I say? Pure madness!
Oh, and by the way, I was listening a radio station the other day, and they said this was by Talking Heads. Wtf?! C'mon, clearly Madness, it has their spunk! Amazingly progressive stupidity.
Well, I'm in a rush, so, I'll just leave here the lyrics and go. Enjoy.

Lyrics:
Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house it has a crowd
There's always something happening
And it's usually quite loud
Our mum she's so house-proud
Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...
Something tells you that you've got to get away from it

Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss
She's the one they're going to miss
In lots of ways

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

I remember way back then when everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we'd play simply waste the day away
Then we'd say nothing would come between us two dreamers

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house, was our castle and our keep
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, that was where we used to sleep
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street...

Living in the Past - Something About Us (29)

Today's song is Something About Us by Daft Punk.
I hate electronic music, but Daft Punk is.. sooo diferent, I can't even explain. Their music has soul, unlike the techno crap played in the disco.
And this song, c'mon, really makes me skip a beat. It's lyrics are so simple and yet, they couldn't go deeper. It fits so perfectly with my previous relationship, it's scary.
You know when you meet someone and it looks like it's destined to happened? Well, in my case, we started going out together, hangin' around with mutual friends, then we became the closest friends and then lovers. Sometimes it truely looked like heaven, but then, for no reason it would start falling apart, and we would break up.
The thing is that even when we were apart, we never kinda forgot each other, we were something different, 'soulmates' (for lack of a better term).
I still love him deeply. And I guess I'm not gonna be able to 'close the door' for a long time, 'cause he's the most important 'thing' I ever had. I refuse to say goodbye, I know that would be the best for us - trying to be happy with someone else - still I can't bare the thought of him with anyone but me.
To sum up, 'cause of my 'almost-zero-experience-with-relationships' - since I kept making these stupid mistakes and screwing things up - I know that: 'I might not be the right one'.
And this 'Might not be the right time', 'cause I should have tried to make things right before.
But I can't help it. I love him to death, 'I love you more than anyone in my life' and 'I miss you more than anything in my life'.
Damn it, I promissed myself I would try to keep it positive. But this song brings tears to my eyes. Damn. Damn. Damn.
Regardless, this song is very beautiful and Daft Punk is a really talented band.

Emotions, what a ride.

Lyrics:
It might not be the right time

I might not be the right one
But there's something about us I want to say
Cause there's something between us anyway

I might not be the right one
It might not be the right time
But there's something about us I've got to do
Some kind of secret I will share with you

I need you more than anything in my life
I want you more than anything in my life
I'll miss you more than anyone in my life
I love you more than anyone in my life

Living in the Past - ALways Look On The Bright Side Of Life (28)

Hey, lads!
Today's song is Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life from Monty Python's movie Life of Brian.
Eric Idle's eternal anthem to mortality. What else can I say? This song speaks for itself! A stroke of genius. Timeless. For the vast majority of people - forget the mourning and celebrate life!

This is oddly comforting, always cheers me up, even in the shittiest moments.
The other day, I was having an excepcionaly bad time, I listened to a load of songs, and felt a little better. But after listening to this, just couldn't stop smiling! I'm telling you, no better cure for depression - no matter what doctors tell you LOL (this song should be mandatory for all those Emo kids!)
Oh, btw, I absolutely love the "subtle" line: Life's a piece of shit when you look at it! Most epic lyric evaaar ROFL And come on, gotta love their accent!

Monty Phyton/Eric Idle: Always Look On The Bright Side Of  Life

Some things in life are bad they can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse

When you've chewing an life's gristle
Don't grumble give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life

If life seems jolly rotten there's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you've feeling in the dumps don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing

And always look on the bright side of life
Come on!
Always look on the bright side of life

For life is quite absurd and death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin give the audience a grin
Enjoy it it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a pice if shit when you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

(Come on guys, cheer up)

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life ....

P.S: What if you can't whistle? (like me) Well, you can always hum! Look at the bright side of it!

Living in the Past - Cat People (Putting Out the Fire) (27)

Hello, freaks,
Today's song is Cat People (Putting Out the Fire) by David Bowie.
Well, first of all, let me just say this: I've had enough of this over analytic posts, and I'm sure that if anyone gave a damn about this blog and/or it's posts he/she would feel the same way.
So, I'll stick to the basics. I guess the important is listening to the song, not hearing a whole lot of stupid personal interpretations 'bout it's lyrics or 'whatsoever'.
Oh, and btw, I am aware that I complain' about my life all the time in here, but, this is my blog and if I can't complain' about my life here where will I be doing it, right?! And it's not like anyone cared, if I'm bitchin' around or not, at least at this point (who am I kidding, nobody reads this).
All shits aside, I love this song 'cause of the way it captures the idea that we are human animals.
Oh sure, we have our courtship rituals so we don't feel so base about it, but what it boils down to is: we need to be spoken to, noticed, touched and loved, just as much as we need food and shelter. Without it, people become sick and deviant.

Well, as you might have noticed by now, today was a real rough day, and I'm acting 'bitchier' than ever. I'll try to tone it down, by the next post.
See you next time? Maybe not, nevertheless...

love you,
xoxo, Lucy

Living in the Past - Soul Sacrifice (26)

Hey, hippie fellas...
Today's song is Soul Sacrifice by Santana.
Can you feel the energy?! Dear lord, I'm blown away by this performance.
I just had to post this video from Santana playing at Woodstock! He's the man. I mean.. he created one of the more memorable moments of the iconic festival, God damn it. The crowd chanting "No rain" just before the song started, and the chants seguing neatly into the percussion intro to the song, it's so awsome.
Furthermore, the drumer, Michael Shrieve.. he's mental! He was only 19 then, can you believe it? (cough*cough*so fuckin' hot*cough*cough) One of the best drum solos I've ever heard, it's like God himself had got his fingers on the drumsticks! Oh, and btw, doesn't he look like Kevin Bacon? LOL
As for the bassist, Dave Brown, I really like the beautiful dark, thumping sound he made on the bass. Niiice.
What can I say about Carlos Santana? Best guitar face evaaaar! (along with Jimi, of course xD) Come on, is there anyone on the stage who isn't high?? Well, I know for sure Santana was, 'cause he said in an interview that he was totally trippin' balls during the performance and was hallucinating a snake instead of his guitar's neck, hence the terrified facial expressions LOL
Overall, the whole band probably needed to be hit with a fiew extinguisher at the end of this song! And, sincelery, it doesn't matter how high they were 'cause this was absolutely an epic performance and took music to another level. Gotta love it.

xoxo, Lucy
