Good Morning People!
Today's song is Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon by Jefferson Airplane.
"Alright people! You have seen the heavy groups now you will see morning maniac music!" (- damn right you've seen the "heavy groups", fuckin' Whoooo, that's what you've seen! ahah) Don't get me wrong, The Plane are just as great, but in a completely different league -their the most intense Psychedelic Rock band I've ever seen! Slick's vocal intensity is beyond real! When she hits that note, which she holds for like 15 seconds: "Sat-ur-daaay Afternooooon", it's just hypnotic, there's nothing like it, you are automatically transported back in time. I also love the vocal fills through the whole song, even though they had very different voice types. I think it gave Jefferson Airplane diversity and first-rate harmonies.
As for the name of the song played at the beggining of the video.. "The Other Side Of This Life", there's no full recording from Woodstock, it got cut up when they were making the documentary. What an abomination! It was going so good, God damn!
Finally, I would like to highlight the following.. Jack Casady is one of the most underrated bass players of all time, c'mon the opening bass-riff is pure gold!
Lyrics:
Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try
Find a way to need someone
Find a way to see
Find a way to need someone
and the sunshine will set you free
Won't you try
With love before we're gone
Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try
Saturday afternoon
Saturday afternoon
When your head is feeling fine
You can ride inside our car
I will give you caps of blue and silver sunlight for your hair
All that soon will be is what you need to see, my love
Won't you try
Won't you try
I do care that you do see
Is it time to leave, my lady
Yes it is, I know
Round about and everywhere; sunshine instead of snow
Times can't change that what I say is true
All is real
I'll come through for you
and I'll come through for you, my love
Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try
Won't you try
Saturday afternoon
Yellow clouds rising in the noon
Acid incense and balloons
Saturday afternoon
People dancing everywhere
Loudly shouting, I dont care
It's a time for growing and a time for knowing
Saturday afternoon
Saturday afternoon (Won't you try)
Saturday afternoon (Won't you try)
Saturday afternoon (Won't you try)
Won't you try (Saturday afternoon)
Won't you try (Saturday afternoon)
Won't you try
Won't you try
P.S: If you check comments from the youtube videos from Woodstock you'll see that people say "Why wasn't I alive during those day's?"/"I would sell my soul to have been there"/"I was born in a wrong generation" *bla bla bla* a lot.. And I feel the need to try to enlight those people, 'cause, you're just ignoring the whole idea behind it! There was a war going on, just like today, and these people were into peaceful protest. What have you done lately to make a change in the world, to make it a better place to live in? To fill it with a little bit of love? It wasn't all about the long hair, the guitars, the drugs, the music, that was only a part of it. It was mainly about peace and love. Think about that.
